Oh What A Beautiful Morning, Oh What a Beautiful Day . . .
It may be the beginning of the song from Oklahoma! but it sure does reflect the weather on Beech Mountain today. It was 45 when I woke up this morning and the Carolina Blue sky was just waiting for me. Not a single cloud to be seen!!!
October in the mountains . . . . Ahhhhhh . . . .
HBV is coming to the end of its maintenance season. We've still havea few projects going on:
1) fix the roof and gutters at the G building
2) build a rock planter in front of H to prevent the erosion of the road and bank
3) put in some water pipes to stop the erosion of the parking area between F and G
4) fix the lower deck in the K building
5) paint the steps on the stairs yellow for safety issues (and adding some sand so they are not slippery)
6) and the ongoing sliding glass door project will continue through winter until we're finished.
Winterization on all unoccupied units have been completed. Please don't forget to send your $5 for batteries for the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
We are just about finished putting out all the snow stations with shovels and ice melt.
Now we're ready for snow, snow, snow!!!
I sure hope to see you up here in the mountains!!

BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN DAY
Hello There!
Well, after a VERY cold Woolly Worm Festival, with approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches of snow up on Beech, the weather has gone back to being beautiful. It is 60 degrees right now and the sun is shining!! Yeah!
Work is starting to slow down at HBV. Larry has been working on the winter inspections, trying to get all the heat turned on in the empty units. We needed to get it done before this last weekend as the temps went down into the 20s. We sure didn't want any frozen pipes!
The shed a the A building has been made to look like a barn. It's very nice. It just needs to be painted. Hopefully Dana will be able to get to that before the weather turns cold for the winter. Dana is working on finishing up the painting on the back of D building, then will paint yellow on all the stairs, so the steps can be seen during the night time hours. Then he'll paint the shed.
The only major projects left this season is to build a planter in front of part of the H building to prevent the bank and road from eroding and finish up the remaining sliding glass doors.
Everyone pray that we don't get any frozen pipes this winter!!!!
Have a wonderful day and we'll see you in the mountains!

It's a rainy Saturday on Beech! Not too cold, though, so that's good.
There's the Woolly Worm Ball down at the Rec Center tonight and then Woolly Worm and the Valle Crucis Fair next weekend. It's gonna be a good time up in the mountains next weekend. You should be here!!!
The leaves are BEAUTIFUL!! We're just at peak season for the upper elevations. The lower elevations (going into Boone from Banner Elk) should be peak in about a week or so. Just in time for the Woolly Worm.
Hope to see ya in the mountians!

Tuesday, October 6
Hello HBVers,
Well, it's another overcast, kinda rainy day up here in the mountains.
OZ weekend was a huge success. Saturday was a gorgeous day with temps in the low 50s. People were waiting in line at 6:30 am!!!! Kinda over the top if you ask me, but I guess they REALLY like the Land of Oz. Sunday was a little overcast with morning temps at 41. Brrrr! Fred's sure did sell a lot of sweatshirts!!! It seems folks had a good time. Put it on your calendar for next year. Autumn at Oz, the first weekend in October!
Woolly Worm and the Valle Crucis Fair is just a couple weeks away. Hopefully the weather will be nice for that also. If you're interested in running the Woolly Worm 5 miler, they are desperate for runners. It should be a good run.
Our guys are still working away on projects. The D and E stairs are done. We've gotten a lot of compliments on it. The painting at the back of the D building is almost done where we had to replace some of the siding and shingles.
We're fixing the gutters at the G building. We've had some rot behind the gutters so we need to get that done pretty quick.
We're also building a rock planter between the G and H bridges to help stop the erosion that's going on on that slope. If we don't take care of it now, we'll eventually lose that road!
We've had to repair some holes in the paved parking area at the K building.
The leaves are almost there. They should be perfect in about a week or so. You gotta go leaf peepin'!!! It's gonna be a pretty year!
Hope to see you in the mountains soon!
