It is gorgeous in the High Country! The temperatures this last week have been a little cool (40s and 50s), but today the sun is shining, like most of the days this month. Unless something ridiculous happens next week, this will be the first time in 10 years it hasn't snowed in April!! Maybe it was that harsh winter and Mother Nature said these poor people have had enough. Thank you Mother Nature!
We are starting our Spring maintenance season, so you should see things going on little-by-little. There's going to be a lot to do on Beech this year, so come on up and enjoy yourselves!

Let It Snow . . . Again!!!
Hello HBVers,
Well, here we are at the end of January and we're expecting another 10" - 14" of snow! So far we've probably totaled 50 inches, and we're only half way there!!! We'll be going down into single digits again, too. So, we've left the heat a little higher in all the units until next week so that we can be sure that we have it warm enough.
We did have a frozen pipe over Christmas due to heat not working in one of our 2 bedroom units. Unfortunately, the people who were renting it neglected to tell the company they rented from that it was not working for at least a day. We had single digits then with wind chills as much as -35!! So, of course when it was fixed, and the heat was cranked up, broken pipe! Hopefully this freeze will not cause any problems!
Other than that we seem to be doing pretty well this winter. We still have the sliding glass doors to do, but the weather just isn't allowing for it. But, we'll get to it . . . when the weather cooperates.
If you're coming to the mountains . . . make sure you have 4-wheel drive or chains! You're not getting around without it!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
25 inches of snow!!! That's about what we have on Beech Mountain from Saturday's snow storm. If you're planning on coming up, bring a four wheel drive or chains. The roads are fairly clean, especially Beech Mountain Parkway, but it's still bad for a two wheel drive vehicle.
HBV made it through the storm without incident. Thank Goodness!!
Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

If you're coming up for Christmas and expect a White Christmas, according to Ray, you won't be disappointed!!!
We're expecting over 10 inches of snow Friday through Saturday, and Ray says at least 3 more snow storms before Christmas!!!!
Don't forget your chains or 4 wheel drive!! You're gonna need it!
Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all our homeowners!

Raining and Foggy
Hello HBVers,
Well, we're back to rainy weather. It was really cold last week and the slopes were able to blow some snow, but now it's back to weather in the low 50s and upper 40s and rain. Hopefully it will change soon. We need to have some cold weather and good skiing conditions for Christmas!
All is well at HBV. We survived our first really big cold spell without incident. Yea! We've also installed additional fire extinguishers, according to our insurance company. We now have an extinguisher on each floor, with no more than 75 feet to get to it from any unit.
All else is quiet here on the mountain, but getting ready for a busy Christmas season.
Hope to see ya in the mountains!

It's Gonna Be Cold!!!!
Hello HBVers,
We had some snow Thanksgiving Day and then last weekend. The slopes are open and seem to be doing well. But, the big news is the temperatures for the next few days . . . the lows are expected to be 15 tonight, 10 on Thursday and 17 on Friday!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! We might have some snow on the weekend, but Ray (http://averyweather.com/Forecast/Beech+Mountain) isn't looking at much. We checked the heat in the units last month, so hopefully everything is set for the coldest temps so far this season.
The clubhouse is lit up for the season! You've got to see it at night. It's beautiful.
We've still got bears hanging around the dumpsters at night. If you can, don't put your garbage in the dumpster until Monday morning, when they pick up, or better yet, take it to the recycling center across from Fred's. Those bears are looking to put on some extra weight before they go night-night for awhile. They are hitting dumpsters all over the place and they aren't very considerate in picking up after themselves. Let's all make an effort to keep HBV neat and tidy and take your garbage to the recycling center.
I hope to see you up here for the holidays to do some skiing. It's gonna be a great winter!

Winter is Comin'
Well, according to Ray, our weather is about to go North!! Our temperatures are going back to normal, after a few days of BEAUTIFUL weather. Our highs are in the 40s and lows in the 30s. Winter is coming!!!!
We're finishing up a couple projects . . . a planter in front of the H building to help prevent erosion of the bank and road and a look at the roof at the G building. Other than that, we are ready for winter and snow. Larry is ready with his plow and is wondering if the predictions will be correct . . . snowy and cold! Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
November is "choose and cut" month here in the High Country. We're starting to see LOTS of Christmas trees goin' by on cars. Be sure to come up and get yours. Nothing better than a Christmas tree straight from the mountains.
Here's hoping everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Eat lots!!!!
